This course may seem really hard & intimidating at first (so many will drop) but just know that there are soooo many resources. The class is a little dry at times, but it's accounting. I have always used this website to help me with my professor selections every semester, but I have never posted on my professors.
You have to type a bunch of numbers in and be specifically correct or its wrong. You will end up studying ALL her powerpoints and aplia problems anyway.
The only good thing about the homework is that you can pull up the practice side by side and pretty much copy over to get a good grade (This is her last semester using Aplia.. The multiple choice always bombs me a letter grade down because they're questions you'd never expect to study.
She uses power points and the book to teach her lecture but she edits a lot of them to suite her needs and the class.
She does a lot of example on the problems you're going to see on the test and goes over them a bunch of times to make sure you're ready.
Abernathy is one of the hardest teacher's I have ever taken. I took her for Accounting I and am currently taking her for II and am NOT expecting an A out of the course.
Reason I am taking her is because she is the only teacher in my time frame (MWF) that actually tries to teach. She is a generally nice women and definitely knows her Accounting. The downside is that I think she doesn't really care about what you make in the class or sympathy if you're not even an accounting major. She runs through the material kind of fast but will ask if anyone needs to have her explain it again and if they have any questions. She has these set of rules that she just expects you to follow and strictly enforces them. She's does everything by the book, and will not throw you a bone, so study for her exams. For instance, if you're late, DON'T come in through the front door, go to the back door, knock, and wait for some one to open bc she doesn't care to call you out on it. She has them all graded on Mondays but if you're late to class you must stay outside and wait until the class in done reviewing the exam for you to come inside. However, I would definitely recommend you take her because her teaching definitely makes up for what some would call "rude." She's not really rude, just very straightforward.Common Exams: 4 Common Exams: 3 Exams & 1 cumulative Final exam. Abernathy posts a Study Guide Sheet on D2L with a list of the topics that may/may not be on the exam. Review Sessions are on the week of the exams on Wednesday at (so ask for the days off at work as soon as you get the syllabus). All worth 80% of your grade, are hard if you don't study or learn the material, obviously. STUDY the problems gone over at the review session because it is VERY likely that they'll be similar to the ones on the exam. She posts the problems & solutions gone over at the review session on D2L.Project: In the beginning of the course you have a small, easy project that is worth 20 points.Considering I am not even an accounting major, I think it's unnecessary. Accounting is a hard subject, Professor Abernathy can make it a bit easier. She's a good accounting teacher if you really need to take one(and you do).Assignments: Weekly Connect homework, D2L quiz, and written homework over every chapter (CH 1-12).Connect homework & D2L quiz were usually due on Sundays & written homework in-class on Fridays.
