Enjoy reading literature by major classical authors in the original language, and complement this with topics in the literature, art, philosophy, history and archaeology of Greece and Rome.Enjoy working with the outstanding collections at the university-led Great North Museum: Hancock, and benefit from our excellent study resources including the Shefton collection on Greek Art and the Fletcher collection.Translation and textual study classes enable you to improve your fluency in reading, while developing skills of literary analysis.

Both Latin and Greek can be studied either from beginners' or advanced level. Our language classes provide thorough grounding in the essential knowledge and skills required to read Latin and Greek texts.You'll be expected to produce between three and six pieces of written work of varying length each semester.Visit our Teaching and Learning pages to read about the outstanding learning experience available to all students at Newcastle University. 15 Level 3 credits should ideally be in a relevant field, e.g.classics, English literature/literature and language, history. If unable to take any of these at Level 3 a social science subject should be taken instead and evidence of reading around the subject will be required. The PARTNERS Programme is Newcastle University’s supported entry route for students from schools and colleges in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Applicants will be considered on an individual basis. Scottish qualifications can be taken in more than one sitting.It isn't available if you're spending a year studying abroad. On completion of Stage 2 and before entering Stage 3, you may as part of your studies for the degree spend a year in a placement with an approved organisation.If you are required to re-sit your Stage 2 assessment, you must delay the start of your placement until you have done so.With the approval of the Degree Programme Director, alternative optional modules to those listed under 2(b) above may be selected from Stage 2 Archaeology, History or other subject areas (to a maximum of 40 credits).Recommended modules are: UK and EU students also have the opportunity to broaden their academic experience by spending Stage 2 studying at one of our partner institutions in Europe on the Erasmus exchange programme or overseas on a Ha SS Faculty non-EU exchange programme.Our teaching is informed by research and modules change periodically to reflect developments in the discipline, the requirements of external bodies and partners, student feedback, or insufficient numbers of students interested (in an optional module). Module/programme information for 2020 entry will be published here as soon as it is available (end of May 2020). Each Stage lasts for an academic year and you need to complete modules totalling 120 credits by the end of each Stage.Further information, including the credit value of the module, is available in each of the module descriptions below.
